My name is Jan O'Neil. In October of 2013, I was elected Vice President of our new PTO and that same month we hosted our 1st annual Harvest Fest event on a zero dollar budget. Shortly thereafter we opened our checking account with $67 and a goal to raise $30,000 for a playground at the future home of Leonardo da Vinci School on Monroe Avenue. Looking back, I can honestly say we’ve come a long way in a very short time! Since 2013, we have hosted numerous social gatherings and fundraisers, installed a playground, helped purchase and manage the procurement of the new sound & lighting systems, offered several after school enrichment courses for our students, sponsored student-led efforts such as the school store, Pi-Day 5k and middle school dances, and so much more. The number of volunteer hours and donated dollars that has made all of this possible is something we can all be proud of. Most importantly, we have come together as a school community to support the amazing staff and further the mission of our school.
I am a mother of three boys who attend Leonardo da Vinci School (Laurence - 7th, Loic - 4th, and Alastair - 1st), and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved through the PTO and as a classroom and school volunteer. I think volunteering sends an important message to my children that will stick with them their entire lives. They know that I have a desire to help make their school the best that it can be and that I am invested in supporting them throughout their education. I am proud to be a part of the Leonardo da Vinci School community and cannot begin to express my appreciation for this program and what it has meant to our family over the past 4 ½ years.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as a Board Member and President of the PTO during this most recent term. It has been the goal of our leadership team to create a sense of belonging and school pride for our families. Not being a community school creates a challenge, but at the same time we are unique in all having sought out this opportunity for our children and we can benefit from our shared passion for their education. It is important to have the opportunity to socialize and network with each other as well as work together on projects and events that enhance the overall experience at Leonardo da Vinci School. I would be honored to continue to serve as a Board Member and President if so elected. I would continue to focus our efforts toward creating opportunities for a strong connection between families and providing volunteer and financial support to the school and its staff. We have a hard-working and dedicated team of volunteer Officers, Chairs and Board Members in place who make my job enjoyable….it’s always a great day when you want to come to work!
